KEN Dinners

WHAT ARE “KEN’ DINNERS?

In 2008, many of us had begun sitting alone at our Shabbat tables.  Kids were grown and moving away, and we began thinking about how that looked and felt. So, KEN was born! Kosher Empty Nesters is a group that began having monthly Shabbat dinners together. We begin with some schmoozing, then we sing some Shabbat songs together, light candles and enjoy dinner together (and more schmoozing). We rotate homes but no one is ever obligated to host--there are enough of us who enjoy hosting dinners. To host, if you don't keep kosher, you can just make a dairy meal. You don't have to commit to coming every month so you can show up when you can.

Now, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are meeting monthly on Zoom. We catch up, sing a little and sometimes share a little Talmud or Torah. It's not the same as having a wonderful dinner but still a lovely community connection.

The only prerequisite is that you need to be of empty nester age (some of us will never truly be empty nesters!). We are not at all cliquey and you don't need to commit or join -- so everyone is always welcome to join us whenever you can.  And now, on Zoom, it's really easy.

Email Barbara Zucker (zuckerbl@gmail.com) to be added to the list to receive a zoom link or with questions.
